Hill-side Farm’s legendary ginger cookies just happened. No one planned or anticipated their popularity. They began as a one-free cookie, ‘thank you for coming to our fair’.

Karlene mixed them with a hand mixer at the show and baked them while people stood in line waiting for a hot cookie. Karlene couldn’t stand to charge anyone for food at her own home, so Bob had the idea of charging 10 cents for each cookie and giving all the money to Special Olympics. That was great! But nothing slowed down the purchases. A thirty quart floor mixer replaced the hand held one, then another was purchased, but they still couldn’t keep up with the demand. Soon October became cookie month at the farm. All the cookies are mixed by a great team of 5 women in the morning. In the evening scores of volunteers roll the dough into balls and pack them into freezers. Thank God for friends and Girl Scouts who sing and laugh and shout to be heard. It’s a noisy, wonderful evening topped off by a hot cookie each.

All profits from the sale of the cookies go to the people with limitations and/or disabilities.

God bless those cookies!!!!!
